waxing treatments

Waxing is the semi-permanent removal of hair from the body, removing it from the root. Pretty much any area of the body can be waxed from your eyebrows down to your toes and everything in between. You can have small areas waxed such as your eyebrows being shaped professionally to larger areas like your legs, back or chest.
There are many benefits to waxing over other hair removal techniques. You can expect to be hair free for up to 8 weeks (depending on your own natural hair growth) and the hair will grow back softer, sparser and thinner over time. This means that the more you wax, the less uncomfortable it will become at each appointment. As a rule of thumb it will be 50% less uncomfortable on your 2nd appointment and get easier and quicker each time after that.
I spend the majority of my time waxing and have an excellent reputation for Brazilian and Hollywood waxing in Plymouth. I am also one of the few people to use hot wax in Plymouth and I wouldn’t dream of using strip wax on the delicate bikini area! You could say that Intimate waxing in Plymouth is my thing!

FAQ's
Please feel free to ask me anything you like about Intimate Waxing in Plymouth, but for now, here is a list of questions I am frequently asked about this hugely popular treatment.
What will happen at my Brazilian/Hollywood appointment?
There will be a quick consultation where you will be asked a series of questions regarding any medication you may taking, ongoing conditions and allergies etc to determine whether there are any contraindications (reasons for not being suitable for the treatment or adjustments required) and the treatment will be explained to you in full. This is essential and required by my insurance company.
During your appointment you will be asked to remove your underwear (don’t worry about being embarrassed, I do this all day every day and seen it all a million times) and lie facing the ceiling on the treatment couch to start with.
A pre-wax cleanser is used followed by a pre-wax oil to protect the skin before the waxing begins. I use Teatree based products as they have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, but if you are allergic to Teatree oil, I do have alternative products available.
I will show you which positions I need you to be in and how you can get involved by stretching the skin. If any of the positions are uncomfortable (you don’t need to be an Olympic gymnast to get a wax), please just say and there are alternatives which we can use.
We’ve all heard horror stories about being made to get on all fours half naked to have your bottom waxed. I find this undignified and un-necessary and you will be asked to lie on your side for this final part of the treatment.
To finish, a cooling afterwax lotion will be applied to the waxed area and aftercare instructions explained.
Your safety, dignity, comfort and satisfaction are my main concerns in any waxing treatment.
Both Brazilian and Hollywood waxing treatments will take roughly 15-25 minutes and is not generally painful, it should be a little uncomfortable at most with recovery time being minimal (if any!).
Don’t forget to book your next appointment for 4-6 weeks time!
What is the difference between hot & strip/warm wax?
Hot wax is spread thickly onto the skin and allowed to dry slightly before it is gently peeled away. The benefits include fewer in-grown hairs, less breakage and therefore longer re-growth periods. The wax also promotes the skin hydration and is highly recommended for sensitive areas.
A pre-wax cleanser and pre-wax oil is used before Hot Wax is applied to create a protective barrier between the wax and the skin. It is spread fairly thickly onto the hair and allowed to cool slightly before removing. As the wax is cooling, it ‘shrink wraps’ the hair and when removed, is pulling the hair by the root without damaging the skin. There is less hair breakage, less trauma to the skin and you don’t end up with the ‘plucked chicken’ look that you can get when using strip wax! The wax also promotes skin hydration and is highly recommended for sensitive areas encouraging longer, maintenance free, re-growth periods.
As it is not ‘sticky’ and doesn’t leave a residue, you don’t find that you have fluff stuck to your bits and bobs later in the day.
Strip wax is recommended for thicker/less sensitive skin, for example legs, arms, back, chest and shoulders. A thin layer of wax is applied to the skin and is then removed using a paper strip.
What is so unique about the wax I use?
I only use HOT WAX for a Brazilian or Hollywood wax. Hot wax is designed to promote skin hydration and care for the skin with various essential – oil based ingredients. This wax also eliminates the ‘freshly plucked chicken’ effect that many other waxes cause. Therefore, having to do your Brazilian a good 24 hours before the hot date is now a thing of the past. Many of my clients also come in for an upper lip and eyebrow wax on the same day of their event and find they leave with little or no redness to the skin.
How long should my hair be for waxing?
As a rule of thumb, your hair needs to be the length of a grain of rice. This normally amounts to about 3-4 weeks growth. If it’s much shorter than this, the wax may not be able to pick up the hair making it more uncomfortable for you as I’ll have to tweeze the stragglers!
Don’t worry about your hair being too long, I can always trim it for you before waxing.
If you’re not sure about the length, pop in and see me and I’ll be able to have a look and give you a definitive answer. Better to do this than arrive and not be able to have your treatment.
I’m pregnant but I want a bikini wax, what do you recommend?
Waxing during pregnancy is very popular especially now that people know that hot wax is less painful. I’m trained to ensure that all parts of the body are waxed comfortably and safely. The Brazilian or Hollywood wax is a very popular treatment a week or so before your due date.
As you progress through your pregnancy, you’ll find it more and more difficult to shave or use creams to remove the unwanted hair from your body due to your bump. Come in and have a wax and then at least it’s one less thing to worry about!
There are not many therapists who offer pregnancy waxing in Plymouth. You are in safe hands with me and I will ensure that you are safe and comfortable at all times.
What aftercare do I need to follow?
To keep the waxed area clean and avoid heat & friction during the next 24 hours. This means:
Please note: Some tenderness, small bumps & redness are common & perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax.
These symptoms should subside over 24-48 hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
I get ingrown hairs after waxing – how can I get rid of them?
Exfoliate. Moisturise. Repeat!
This helps to remove oils and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin allowing the new hairs to grow out of the skin instead of getting blocked in the follicle.
I highly recommend getting yourself a hygienic Japanese style rough cloth which you can use both wet and dry to exfoliate your bikini area (or any other area for that matter).
It drys very quickly meaning it doesn’t harbour any bacteria so is super hygienic. It’s also long enough to use for your back and other hard to reach places. Used daily, you’ll minimise ingrown hairs and have super soft skin all over your body to boot!
I am also a stockist of Ruff Stuff bodycare products. These consist of delicious smelling body scrubs and moisturising oils that are perfect for after waxing. They are designed and hand produced by a waxer so exactly what you need after a Brazilian or Hollywood bikini wax in Plymouth.
Do I have to remove my underwear?
You will be required to remove your underwear for Brazilian and Hollywood waxing. If you really really don’t want to, I can provide a disposable thong for you to wear. Please bear in mind that it will make the treatment time slightly longer (and who wants to have a lengthy waxing session?!)
Can I still have a bikini wax when I’m on my period?
Of course! You will need to wear a freshly changed tampon before treatment. You may also use the loo beforehand to freshen up, I do have wet wipes available, please just ask!
Does it hurt?
Every person has a different pain threshold and also experience waxing differently, however if you maintain your waxing regularly, most find it easier as the hairs become thinner, lighter and more sparse after a few treatments. If your pain threshold is particularly low, a couple of painkillers an hour prior to treatment tends to reduce any pain.
For those that find it really uncomfortable, I recommend you have a 2nd wax in 4 weeks time and you will see that any discomfort is usually reduced by about 50% the next time around!
How long will the waxed area be hair free?
You may notice a small amount of growth after a week or so. It can take up to four treatments for your hair to get into a growth cycle that gives best results. We recommend waxing every 4 weeks to maintain your smooth appearance.
Any re-growth will be thinner, sparser and less noticeable than before your first wax.
Can I bring a friend with me?
If you want to, of course! A lot of first timers come in pairs as they’re nervous about their first wax. Just be warned that you’ll be baring all for Brazilian and Hollywood waxing, so make sure they’re a close friend!
If you have any other questions about any type of waxing treatment that I offer, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
